Construction and Engineering Experts

Headquartered in North Carolina, Pike has transformed into a leading, integrated provider of construction, repair and engineering services for distribution and transmission powerlines and substations, with a growing portfolio of turnkey and renewable projects. The company has been designing, connecting, and maintaining this life-critical infrastructure for over 70 years now. “We have become the safest, most technologically savvy, turnkey solutions provider for our customers,” says J. Eric Pike, Chairman and CEO of Pike.

Pike is a results-driven company that has been built on operational excellence and implementation. Whether it’s data insights, or tech-assisted ways of doing things better or faster, the Pike team knows how to take technology and incorporate it into daily operations. “The marriage of innovation and operational excellence is very powerful, especially at the scale at which we maintain our nation’s infrastructure,” explains Mr. Pike or Eric.

" We have become the safest, most technologically savvy, turnkey solutions provider for our customers. "

Pike is one of the largest service providers for energy infrastructure to investor-owned utilities, electric cooperatives, municipalities, communication companies and gas utilities in the United States. Additionally, the company has designed and installed over a gigawatt of solar and wind generation during the last ten years and is actively designing and installing battery storage systems today. One of the great strengths that Pike brings to its customers is the long-standing experience it shares with them, many of whom have partnered with Pike for over 50 years. These relationships have fostered a level of trust in Pike and its ability to consistently find the best solutions for projects, which are not only operationally smart and cost-effective, but are also leading the market in tech savviness.

Pike is investing heavily in technology to provide customers with new products and opportunities, as well as enhanced performance transparency and service. The company’s move to a fully cloud-based back office has helped to increase speed and ensure accuracy, and Pike's RPA or “BOT” initiatives are reducing costs and improving cycle time for customers. The company has several IoT initiatives in the works as well.

In fact, Pike’s investment in technology spans all facets of its business. “We have invested in Virtual Reality Training for our employees to improve their safety awareness and skill sets in the safest, most realistic training scenarios possible, and we are using advanced telemetrics across our fleet to increase utilization and reduce downtime,” says Mr. Pike or Eric. While engineering and construction companies are not normally thought of in the context of cutting-edge technology, Mr. Pike or Eric believes this is a gross oversight. “We often deploy new technology very early and craft business use cases for technologies that were never even envisioned. For example, most people assume VR to be an entertainment toy. However, when it is combined with very realistic work processes and backed by data analytics, the workforce training opportunities are tremendous,” he explains.

Oftentimes, new technologies fail in the B2B environment – not because of the technology itself – but because the companies adopting them face implementation challenges. Pike, however, is an operations expert, and has been built on delivering successful outcomes. As a result, when the company gets access to actionable data or technology-enabled ways to do things, the positive business impact that it can drive for its customers and internal operations is tremendous.

Today, Pike continues to grow its service territory across the country, including new offices in California and Hawaii. The company will continue to invest in new technology to improve its business and value to the customer. “In the short term, some of the technology-related products that we expect to launch include our suite of virtual reality training experiences, as well as our TEAM business intelligence platform,” adds Mr. Pike or Eric.
