A Resilient Leader

Alexander Melgar, CEO of Ambassador Services, is highly creative and brings that angle into every meeting, impacting customer satisfaction. An instance to illustrate the point, Ambassador Services had a large bid where the client was a college system across suburban Texas. So rather than limiting themselves to addressing their questions, the company offered to establish a college fund in Ambassador Services’ name to help minority or low-income students, which immediately got them on the shortlist. Alexander challenges his team to think strategically but brings a unique perspective to elevate the business to a new level. The CEO is very wise to receive input, both good and bad. He works tirelessly to build on the team’s strengths, but he is also willing to explore those areas where there is room for improvement. He asks questions and challenges his staff to develop viable solutions to improve the customer experience.

Alexander’s focus is always on identifying what’s working well first. When he sees that something works, he ensures his team continues doing it. He builds the foundation on the organization’s strengths and maintains it over time through consistency across his businesses. And he’s the first one to admit that we all need to continue evolving! From an early age, he knew the importance of education. Going to college at night while applying himself and climbing the corporate ladder during the day. “I mention that because the realization of the ever-evolving need to build on your professional development is mesmerizing to me,” he says. “I’ve also been fortunate to enlist the help of successful mentors & advisors who have contributed to the success of our business with their solid experience in the industry and practical expertise.”

We’ve been working diligently in the development of powerful technology to enable service industry entrepreneurs to scale and maximize efficiencies in running their complex remote service operations across the nation and around the world.

For the steadfast leader, providing advice and sharing his experience is essential; that is how he has influenced and guided budding entrepreneurs. But his assistance also includes investing in many ways, financially or connecting them with resources. “For instance, I introduced my CPA to my lead faculty at Goldman Sachs, and when they realized they both complemented each other’s strengths, they formed a very successful consulting company,” explains Alexander. “Also, supporting people to follow their calling like introducing our outsource HR representative to the technology sector who has a concept for an HR software app, connecting her to consulting resources and supporting her journey.”

When given lemons, Alexander makes lemonade. He runs his business with an open-door policy and is someone willing to hear the not-so-good news because his ultimate reason or focus is improving things. A combination of listening and being willing to adapt on the areas that matter. While in staff meetings, he starts thinking about the reasons why and the implications or potential impact. And if it makes sense for the business, he’ll explore those options; and will tell you “Why not…?” According to Alexander, leadership comes with a lot of responsibility, and one must accept criticism; it’s part of life. “Everyone has an opinion, but you have to stay true to your calling. We’d be insecure if you take criticism the wrong way. Ideally, you are sure of your vision and are open minded as to how you map the path to business growth,” he explains. “Clear communication of expectations is also very important. In addition, I understand it is my job to ensure I provide my staff all the necessary tools to perform to high standards. Lastly, I give people the benefit of the doubt and ample opportunity to try again and succeed.”

Armed with this mindset, Alexander has been taking Ambassador Services to new heights, expanding the business to the top 5% percentile in size nationwide. Over the years he has experienced himself the lack of automated systems designed for the facility maintenance industry. “I set out to create an end-to-end business platform specifically designed around the needs of service delivery organizations with remote staff on location, working at the clients’ site,” he explains. “Since we rolled out the platform across Ambassador Services, we have considerably enhanced communications across our field and corporate staff, gained significant cost efficiencies and most importantly, improved our customer experience through accurate and speedy response time.”

One of the company’s most significant achievements has been rolling out an in-house solution that has helped Ambassador Services gain substantial cost savings that any other business can replicate and reap the rewards in their bottom line. Ambassador Services has been able to reduce overtime costs by 52%.” After growing his business exponentially, he’s pivoted into the technology sector to help other services businesses scale faster, while enabling an exceptional customer experience.

“We’ve also benefited from improvements around faster, more efficient recruitment and onboarding services of new employees,” elucidates Alexander. “Completing the entire process of interviewing, submission of paperwork and training completely online, while avoiding face-to-face interaction during the challenging pandemic years.” IE
