“A Global Leader in the Assessment & Digital Curriculum”

When the pandemic settled into American schools, the education system dramatically shifted to virtual technology-rich learning. In response to COVID-19, Edmentum has ensured the wellbeing of its constituents in numerous ways, including launching its Capacity Assistance Program (E-CAP) in March of 2020 through June 2020, providing educators access to free, on-demand curriculum, tools, and virtual consulting, helping to ensure continuity of learning and a smoother transition into entirely virtual environments.

Edmentum accommodated an unprecedented 500% usage increase in April of 2020 by swiftly migrating the company’s most used learning platforms to a new cloud infrastructure. Edmentum successfully supported customer demand and ramped up HR initiatives to hire and onboard more than 300 virtual teachers, growing by at least 60%. To address compounding learning losses and skill gaps, Edmentum quickly developed and launched innovative digital Accelerate courses. Aimed at getting high school students back on track, these five- to nine-week courses teach essential prerequisite skills. Edmentum developed its “Start Smart: Reopening School After COVID Learning Loss” research paper, a cohesive response plan guiding educational leaders toward maximized learning outcomes in the 2020–21 school year.

Edmentum, the preeminent global leader in the assessment and digital curriculum K-12 solutions, is the oldest education technology organization in the country. Founded initially as PLATO Learning in 1960 from a research project out of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Edmentum has been at the forefront of education for over 60 years. Edmentum pioneered education technology and computer-assisted instruction by creating the first-ever workforce development curriculum delivered entirely via computer. In 2012, PLATO Learning, a digital curriculum and virtual instruction leader acquired Archipelago Learning, leading formative assessments and standards-based practice provider. Together, the two became what is now known as Edmentum.

"We are dedicated to being educators' most trusted partner in creating successful student outcomes everywhere learning occurs. Our commitment is built off the emphasis we place on our core values: passion, people, respect, collaboration, and performance."

After the 2012 merger that created Edmentum, Jamie Candee, CEO of Edmentum, led integration efforts and helped rebrand the organization. Jamie works hard to ensure the team of experts, former educators, and researchers always have their finger on the pulse of education. In partnership with educators, Edmentum creates the future that every child deserves through a shared mission, earned trust, meaningful partnerships, and the cultivation of a community that drives the creation of a school around every student. Under Jamie’s leadership, Edmentum has built and launched a new K-12 individualized learning program called Exact Path, acquired Calvert Learning to grow our catalog of high-quality K-8 virtual curriculum. She also created strategic partnerships with leading SEL providers BASE Education and Reflection Sciences and welcomed the Vistria Group as a new majority stakeholder. Her leadership has propelled the company’s next phase of growth.

Jamie also established Edmentum’s guiding principle of "Educator First," which ensures that Edmentum puts educators at the forefront of every decision, every day. This approach completely revolutionized how Edmentum researches, designs, and builds its products. "Educator First" design ensures the connection between a student and their teacher is enhanced, but the teacher is never supplanted. This mindset helped Edmentum launch innovative new features like Study Island’s EON, an artificial intelligence tool focused on assisting teachers to onboard and support their classrooms.

Edmentum offers a complete suite of solutions unmatched by other providers—from online learning curriculum to educational consulting services; educators are sure to find a solution that meets their classroom needs, hand-in-hand with the ongoing support required to ensure a successful implementation. From providing a flexible, standards-aligned curriculum to mitigating unfinished learning through adaptive instruction, Edmentum successfully partners with over 8,000 school districts to individualize learning for every classroom.

Whether learning takes place in a virtual, hybrid, or in-person setting, Edmentum envisions leading the digital transformation of K-12 education by continuing to provide market-relevant solutions that are core to the learning day, including innovative curriculum, assessment, whole-child support, and educator training. Edmentum continues to expand its impact on a national and global scale. In June of 2021, Edmentum announced an agreement to acquire Apex Learning, a premier high-quality K-12 virtual and hybrid learning program provider. With the addition of Apex Learning, Edmentum will be the leading provider of high-quality, K-12 virtual and blended learning programs, supporting millions of students and counting worldwide.. Edmentum’s research-based approach offers hundreds of state- and nationally-certified courses, supported by comprehensive consulting and educational services. Adding Apex’s credit-bearing core and elective courses, project-based technology courses, and student-targeted, standards-matching tutorials will create a new industry-leading model for virtual and hybrid learning programs..IE
