According to ICD Alloys & Metals LLC President, Steve Conlin, the high temp specialty metals industry has many challenges. Sourcing and aligning metals to customers needs is a daunting task, but one we relish the challenge of at ICD. Whether it be recycled materials or rare and minor metal production, our role is to be the “urban miner” bringing metals from “mine to market”. ICD Alloys & Metals sells both primary and secondary metals and the alloys made from them.

Steve spent 27 years in the metals industry, from sweeping the floors of the factory to becoming the president of the business. Steve is an impactful problem solver who wants his team to succeed. His personal and professional passion, honesty, and integrity are admired. Steve is a competitive sportsman who establishes high standards and knows that leading by example is best. He encourages others to challenge themselves and follow their passions.

Being well-traveled over the years Steve has gained many experiences in all aspects of business both foreign, local, and cultural. He's originally from the UK and resides in the USA.

Steve knows that every member of the team requires encouragement, aid, and constructive criticism to become better and gain experience. Steve, like most good leaders, doesn’t think his way is the only way, maturity teaches you to welcome others' opinions. Steve's learning curve for delegating to promote employees was steep, but he recommends it to anyone starting a firm. It requires a team, not just one person, says Steve.

When asked about judging inefficient employees, Steve asks himself if he and his team have had the adequate training, tools, advice and settings to judge inefficient employees. When analyzing unproductive staff, make sure they have the platform to meet company demands and understand their role and responsibilities. Regular communication and reviews are critical in ensuring everyone understands the company and individual's needs.

For a few years, ICD has been constructing their own customized bespoke ERP/CRM system to grow their firm on the technology front, as stated by Steve. Becoming paperless and living within the operations is vital to the company's performance and metrics. Ensure all employees have the tools to do their jobs. Product handling and streamlined flow channels improve efficiency.

Steve would indicate their customer service and proactive response times to customers and suppliers’ inquiries. He explains:

• Our international reach includes the US, UK, Europe, and Asia. We supply cutting-edge materials to defense, commercial, energy, medical, oil & gas, and chemical industries to name a few.

• ICD Alloys and Metals take the lead with long-term financing solutions and innovative accounting. Securing long term contracts with both producers and customers.

• Being the producer of certain products, ourselves has allowed ICD Alloys and Metals to expand our portfolio in securing supply chains to our customers from trusted allies.

ICD offers many metallurgical solutions to its clients, such as suggesting different alloy grades to achieve the objectives with a more commercially viable cost effective product; alternative additive options that provide cheaper sourcing based on the availability of units; using binary metals instead of individual prime metals; custom certified ingot chemistry, which is hard to hit when producing via AOD refinement; and finding hard-to-find metal supply chains around the world.

Steve says industrial experience and ingenuity help solve economical and government problems. ICD's hybrid business approach enables one-stop-shop solutions for clients who might otherwise call 10 companies to achieve their sourcing goals and needs.

Since our establishment in 2013, we've built a terrific team with excellent skill sets and passion, with a host of specialized equipment and supply chains to service our developed customer markets. Steve says aerospace, defense, medical, energy, and industrial gas have strict approval processes. Our ISO-certified company is admired, yet hard to emulate. Our business honors include Scrap Company of the Year 2 years running, Fastest Growing Business of the Year 2 years running, and Queen's Award for Outstanding International Business. Since our expansion into Europe back in 2016 ICD has been searching for the next compliment to the business and Steve is proud to say ICD Melting Solutions will be introduced to the world in a few months as they build a state-of-the-art boutique melting facility and service provider to our supported industries and the newly evolving EV battery industry conversion. ICD is entering medical recycling across the US and creating a metallurgical defense division supporting the United States needs for strategic metals.
